Lumberton, TX - Born on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1930, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, William Frank "Bud" Tweedy, Jr., was welcomed by his parents, Bonnie Bell Crum and William Frank Tweedy, Sr. At age 96, he transitioned to heaven on July 17, 2026, at home with his wife by his side. Baton Rouge was home for all but his final few years, when he moved to Lumberton, Texas, to be near family. Two profound losses early in his life, the death of his father when Bud was 8 and of his maternal grandfather, "Big Daddy," when he was 13, taught him the significance of responsibility, hard work, respect for his elders, and trust in the Lord. His was a long life, well-lived.

His mother informed him at age 9, that he was now "the man of the house" and had to earn his own spending money. He started with a paper route, and later worked various other jobs, all the while participating in football and track and attending church every Sunday. After graduating from Istrouma High School (1947), Bud attended SLU and LSU. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was recalled to duty during the Korean War. After completing his military duty as a staff sergeant, he earned his BS in Mathematics from Louisiana College and a Master of Divinity from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Bud pursued his vocation as a Baptist minister for seven years and continued serving the Lord throughout his life. He supported Louisiana College for many years and traveled throughout the state promoting the formation of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF), serving as the Chairman of the Finance Committee and Treasurer. A former member of University Baptist Church, he served as Chairman of the Trustees, Personnel, and Renovation Committees. In later years, he served as a deacon of Broadmoor Baptist Church.

Pivoting mid-career to the insurance business, Bud was a District Manager for Aetna Insurance before launching his firm, Planned Insurance Benefits (PIB). He retired as an insurance and financial advisor (CLU, ChFC) after a long, successful career. He was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, and a past president of both the American Society of Financial Service Professionals of Baton Rouge and the Estate and Business Planning Council of Baton Rouge.

Later in life, Bud gave up golf to pursue his interest in saltwater fishing, often retreating to his beloved camp at Pointe Fourchon, Louisiana. He was a devoted football fan, especially LSU football, and acquired a taste for Texas A&M football upon his move to Texas. He was an avid reader, loved to travel, and could make an adventure out of an ordinary day. He never met a stranger, and his funny stories will surely be missed. A kind, generous, gentle soul who loved his family, his country, and his friends. He was grateful for the blessed life he enjoyed.

Bud is survived by his wife, Julia White Tweedy; his children, Paul (Rexie) Tweedy and Rhonda Tweedy (David) Swiger; his stepchildren, Tom (Sarah) Owens and Jeff Owens; his grandchildren, Brett (Jessica) Swiger, Craig (Megan) Swiger, Mary Catherine (Justine) Schmidt, and David Tweedy; his step-grandchildren, Anna Kate, Olivia, Clara, and Maribeth Owens; and seven great-grandchildren. He considered Dr. Gwen Corbett (Benson) Henry his unofficial adopted daughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather and adoptive father, Norman "Bo" Johnson; his sister, Linda Johnson Davidson; his wife, Martha Sue St. Amant Tweedy; and his son, William "Will" Tweedy.

Bud's "Celebration of Life Service" will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Broadmoor Baptist Church, 9755 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815, Visitation: 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.; Service: 11:00 a.m., with a reception following the service in the church fellowship hall.
