William Johnson (Bill) Obituary
Zachary, LA - William "Bill" Johnson entered eternal rest on Saturday, May 17, 2025, surrounded by love and peace with his wife by his side. Born in Woodville, Mississippi, and raised in Zachary, Louisiana. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Bill served courageously in the Vietnam War. In 1973, he made history as the first African American police officer in the City of Zachary, where he served with distinction until retiring as Captain. His legacy of service extended beyond the badge—he was a proud graduate of the FBI Academy, a member of the Magnolia State Peace Officer Association, the Zachary Men's Club, and the Lion's Club. Bill's faith was the foundation of his life. As a dedicated deacon and member of New Pilgrim Baptist Church, he served faithfully through the Evangelist and Outreach Ministry, always leading with humility and love. Whether at the church, in the community, or in his own backyard tending the barbecue, Bill brought people together with kindness, wisdom, and warmth. Forever cherished by his loving wife, Gloria H. Johnson; daughter, Zindy Laursen-Johnson (Denmark); bonus children, Kerry (Wathlene) Gosa, Gregory (Gail) Gosa, and Karen Breaux; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy (Weldon) Armwood and Daisy (Scottie) Carson; a host of nieces and nephews, including his special niece Janice Johnson-Dunn; godsons, extended family, and dear friends. Public Viewing will take place Monday, May 26, 2025 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Miller & Daughter Mortuary. Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 11:00 am at New Pilgrim Baptist Church.
