San Antonio, TX - Sylvia Lucille Spearman Thomas, aged 90, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026. Born on April 27, 1935, in Crowville, Louisiana to Arthur Paul Spearman and Mamie Lee Townsend Spearman. Sylvia was a beacon of love, joy, and creativity.

Sylvia was the embodiment of resilience, kindness, and humor. Her generous spirit and caring nature were evident to all who had the privilege to know her. She had an innate ability to make people feel loved and special. Her mischievous sense of humor, loyal friendship, and helpful nature made her a favorite amongst friends and family. Sylvia's responsible and organized demeanor was reflected in her long career as a homemaker.

Educated in Crowville, Louisiana, Sylvia later earned a bachelor's degree in Home Economics from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute. She was passionate about teaching, especially in the field of earth science, and her influence extended beyond her classrooms into the lives of many students.

Sylvia was an accomplished and talented woman. Her hobbies ranged from sewing, oil and watercolor painting, drawing, to gardening. She had a distinctive taste in interior decorating and landscaping, and a unique knack for antique collecting. Sylvia's love for her family was evident in her interest in genealogy and her enjoyment of cooking, scrapbooking, and entertaining. She had a fondness for travel, which she pursued with enthusiasm.

Sylvia's achievements extended to community service. She served as a Cub Scout den mother, PTO president, Garden club president, and Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) president, contributing significantly to her community in each role.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Paul Spearman; mother, Mamie Lee Townsend Spearman; sisters, Syble Louise Spearman Olson, Joyce Spearman Richardson, Jean Spearman Killcrease; brother, Arthur Edward Spearman; and her husband, Seborn Alton Thomas.

She is survived by her sons, Tracy Seborn Thomas (Amy) and Darrell Mason Thomas (Nancy); grandchildren, Erica Taylor Thomas Nelson (Barrett), Chandler Marie Thomas Elliott (Andrew), Caitlyn Elizabeth Thomas Emmenegger (Nick), David Seborn Thomas, Mason Arthur Thomas, Zachary Pierce Opdyke, and Nicole Qing Li Opdyke; and great-grandchildren Harper Drew Nelson, Holt Barrett Nelson, Lucille Margaret Elliott, and Harris Ford Nelson.

Over the past decade, Sylvia was lovingly and tirelessly cared for by Nancy Thomas. Her unwavering support made a significant difference in her life. The family also extends their gratitude to the Discovery Village Memory Care team for their excellent care, providing Sylvia with comfort and dignity throughout his journey.

A memorial service in honor of Sylvia's life will be held on March 28th at 10:00 am at Discovery Village Stone Oak, 21902 Franklin Park, San Antonio, Texas, 78259. A reception will follow the service, concluding at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made in Sylvia's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation at www.alzfdn.org.

Sylvia's life was a testament to her strong will, her loving heart, and her undying commitment to her family and community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
