Steve Alan Ayo Obituary

Port Barre, LA - Steve Alan Ayo, 70, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, after a long illness. A resident of Port Barre, LA, and longtime resident of Gonzales, LA, Steve was born on September 20, 1954, at Pensacola Air Force Base to Betty Lou Veazey Ayo and Eugene Joseph Ayo Sr.

A devoted outdoorsman, Steve loved hunting, fishing, and especially crabbing. A true craftsman, he found joy in small engine repair, thrifting, and hands-on artisanship. He retired from the industrial sector and was a proud small business owner. Known for his warmth, humor, and generosity, Steve never met a stranger—always offering a kind word and a helping hand.

His greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his sons, Bryan Dewayne Ayo and Elliott Joseph Ayo (Jannah); and grandchildren Gavin, Avery, Ayven, Jeremiah, and Mia. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth "Kenny" Ayo (Libby); sister JoAnn "Jodi" Ayo Hager (Eddie); sisters-in-law Diane "Dee" Clark Ayo and Linda Moore Ayo; nieces Angie, Leann, Katlyn, and Felicia; nephews Michael, Russell, and Tony; and many extended relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Eugene "Gene" Ayo Jr. and Russell Ayo; nieces Kristina Ayo and Brandy Hager Rowell; and nephew Shannon Ayo.

Services will be held on Friday, June 27, at New River Baptist Church, located at 45270 LA-429, St. Amant, LA 70774.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a memorial service at 11:00 AM, followed by a repast.

Matthew 11:28-30

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
