Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Sophia "Sophie" Louise White was born in Baton Rouge, LA on July 10, 1933 to the union of Wilbert Michael White, Sr. and Louise Decuir White. Sophie entered into eternal life on July 9, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Sophie was a very active member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. She attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, McKinley High School, Xavier University of Louisiana, and received her Master's Degree in Art from New York University.

After completing her education, Sophie began her teaching career at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. She later served as a school principal in Lucy, Louisiana, before transferring to McKinley Elementary in Baton Rouge. Following integration, she taught at University Terrace. Sophie eventually retired from education in order to care for her parents.

Sophie traveled extensively around the world including the Philippine Islands, Italy, France, Chile, and Thailand, just to name a few. Sophie lived a very active life and enjoyed Pilates, Yoga, and weight lifting at the YMCA. She especially loved the arts and loved attending art exhibitions, festivals, and music events with her companion, Randell Henry.

Sophie is survived by her siblings, Wilbert White, Jr. (Geraldine) of Atlanta, GA, Arthur Leon White, Carl White, and J. Darrell White, all of Baton Rouge, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Josephine "Joann" White, and Betty White Chambers, and her brother, Michael Wayne White, and nephew, Carlus Michael White.

Visitation at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1150 S 12th St, on Tuesday, July 14th from 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Rosary at 10:30am. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Desselle Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff at Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge for their exceptional care.
