Patricia May Baugh née O'Brien Obituary
Stamford, CT - Patricia May Baugh, née O'Brien, 103, of Stamford, Connecticut, died peacefully on May 17th at Fairfield County Hospice.
She was born in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) on January 18th, 1923 to Terence and Dorothy O'Brien, who were there growing tea. After returning to Donegal in Ireland, Patricia enjoyed many years along the shores of Lough Swilly until she left for England during WWII. There, she was a nurse to children who had been evacuated from London during the Blitz. In 1945, Patricia, who was now a young widow with an infant son, Ian, met John Stuart Baugh, with whom she would go on to enjoy sixty-four wonderful years full of love and adventure.
Their lives together took them first to Argentina, where John had grown up and still had family, and then to Peru for many years, and later to Ireland briefly and then finally to Connecticut. Along the way they had five more children, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Patricia loved nothing more than to spend time with her large family, enjoying the simpler pleasures of life. A great lover of nature, she delighted in the changing seasons of Connecticut, taking long walks in the woods near her home and on the beaches of Brewster on Cape Cod, where the family spent many summers. Patricia was a voracious and widespread reader and was often to be found at the Perrot Library in Greenwich. She was a longterm member of the Marina chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire, and played bridge in a league. As well as being a devoted mother and grandmother, she was a loyal friend who kept in touch with many people from all stages of her life.
Patricia was loved by all for her warm and welcoming presence, her sense of humour and the twinkle in her eye. She loved singing and having all kinds of fun. She was full of grace and love, right to the end.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John, son Peter, and son-in-law Davíd. She leaves behind her children Ian, Lionel, Charles, Sheila and Brenda; daughter-in-law Pilar, son-in-law Tony and daughter-in-law Françoise; her grandchildren Thomas and Julie, Jennifer and Alexander, Clara and Cristina, Sabina and Benjamin, and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
We will miss her deeply but she will live on in our hearts forever. Donations can be made in Patricia's name to Fairfield County House hospice.
