Mrs. Olivia Jones Carter Obituary

Baton Rouge, LA - Olivia Jones Carter was born on December 23, 1944, to the late Reverend Cenas and Julia Moore Jones in Lakeland, Louisiana. A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she transitioned into eternal rest on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at her home. Olivia was educated in Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge Parishes. She was a graduate of Cohn High School and Southern University. She taught Mathematics at Baker High School for 30 years. She studied at Pensacola Theological Seminary and Light University, focusing on biblical counseling. She served as an Usher and a Sunday School Teacher while a member of St. Alma Baptist Church. As a member of Greater New Guide Baptist Church, she served as an Associate Minister, Director of the Family Learning Center, and as a Teacher and Superintendent of Sunday School. She was also an instructor at the Fourth District Missionary Baptist Association. She was married to the late George Carter on August 19, 1967. To this union, three children were born. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Hall's Celebration Center, 9348 Scenic Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA. Visitation will resume on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10 am to 12 pm at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, 650 Blount Road, Baton Rouge, La., before the funeral service to be held at noon, officiated by Rev. Fred Jeff Smith. Interment will be held at Louisiana National Cemetery, Zachary, Louisiana.


She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Rhonda Matthews; two sons, Chetwin (Latoya), and Ivan (Toccara) Carter; six grandchildren, Destiny and Micaiah Carter, Rekai Matthews, Chetwin Il and Chambers Carter, and lan Carter. She is also survived by her brothers, Earnest and Cenas (Jacqueline) Jones; and sisters, Carolyn Jones, Florida (Eugene) Collins, Thelma Jones, and Irma Johnson; sister-in-law, Thelma L. Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; former daughter-in-law, Sivitra Carter, and former son-in-law, Monty Matthews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
