Myrna Loy Ray Taylor Obituary

Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Myrna Loy Ray Taylor, 92, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026. She was born on November 3, 1933, in Midland, Texas to Burnice Elmer Ray and Sallie Belle Willson Ray. Myrna Loy, aka mom and not the famous movie star, was proud of her Texas heritage. After graduating high school in San Angelo, she married her high school sweetheart Billy. They moved to Lubbock where they attended Texas Tech University. She studied speech communication until she changed her major to full time mom. After moving to Baton Rouge in 1970, the family joined Broadmoor Baptist Church and her volunteer ministry bloomed. She immediately began serving as one of the directors of Mother's Day Out and weekday preschool programs at Broadmoor Baptist. She also served as the director of Baptist Women, Women's Missionary Union, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, LLL, and many other committees. She was the first woman ordained as a Deacon at Broadmoor and eventually served as the Chairman of Deacons. Her passion for music led her to play in the handbell choir where she rang the BIG bells!! As the proud mother of three amazing children, she was heavily involved in school and extracurricular activities. Sharing her roots in the Rainbow Girls, she was a Campfire Girl and Cub Scout leader. She ran mom's taxi to orchestra and choir concerts, swim meets, baseball games and more. Always looking to help, she volunteered as a room mother, worked in the school office, substitute taught, chaperoned trips and spearheaded thousands of cookie and pizza drives. Her love for the Lord and life will live on through her 3 children Randy Taylor (Debbie), Karen Bolton (John), and Michael Taylor (Chantal); 5 grandchildren Hunter Marks (Erin), Heather Hollier (Chris), Christopher Taylor (Haley), Lauren Taylor and Whitney Taylor; 2 great grandchildren Alyssa Hollier and Kieran Fuller; and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 72 years Billy Taylor, her parents B.E. and Sallie Ray, brother Bennie Ray and son-in-law Don Marks. The family recognizes the amazing support and love given by the staff at Francois Bend Assisted Living in Gonzales and Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge. A Memorial Service will be held at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 AM with services beginning at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow at Broadmoor Baptist Church Activity Hall. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
