Max Overton Usrey III Obituary
Baton Rouge, LA - Max Overton Usrey III passed away Tuesday March 24, 2026, of natural causes. Born in Blytheville, Arkansas, Max was a graduate of Blytheville High School and subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Louisiana State University. His lengthy and successful professional career included positions with McRae & Associates, and more than 30 years with Evans-Graves Engineers as Senior Special Projects Engineer. Max was a member of the Louisiana Engineering Society and the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors. He is fondly remembered by family and friends for his passion for life, both in his work and in his recreational pursuits, first and foremost finding peace on the water off the coast of Florida as he fished, skied or sailed. His love of meandering down the Tchefuncta River earned him the tag line, « Cruising to the Max! » Back at home in Baton Rouge, Max honed his culinary skills thanks to the Food Network on television, and chiefly to his own excellent taste and adventurous spirit. His fried turkey for holidays became a family tradition and a staple on many a friend's table for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The constant and abiding loves of Max's life were first and foremost his daughter, Lindsey Kaye Usrey, and his four-legged best friend, Jack, an American Bulldog, always by his side. Max is preceded in death by his parents, Max Overton Usrey, Jr., and Ruth Curtis Usrey. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 1, at St. James Episcopal Church, 208 North 4th Street in Baton Rouge at 5:00 p.m. with visitation at St. James beginning at 4:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in his honor may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or the Edible Schoolyard in New Orleans, Louisiana. Family and friends may sign the online guestbook or leave a personal note to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com
