Baton Rouge, LA - Mary Gail Yeates passed away in early March of 2026 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. An honored educator for 40 years, she spent her career sharing the wonders of Physics, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Math with her students. She was an incredible cook and loved hosting her family and friends during the holidays, her daughters' cheerleading team, her son's entire cross-country team, or while cheering on her LSU Tigers. Mary Gail was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Phil Yeates; her mother and father, Raymond and Lalita Poche; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Col. Bill and Geraldine Yeates. She is survived by her children, Ami Yeates, Cassie Yeates, Whit Yeates, and Ray Yeates. "Mim" was the cherished grandmother of her six grandchildren: Heather, David, Brandt, Philip, Alyra, and Alexandra, and five great-grandchildren: Yaretzi, Xander, Isabelle, Catherine, and Jordan. She will be deeply missed by her siblings: Renee and Edmund Haase, Valerie and Warren Mays, Mignon Keller, and Ray and Susan Poche. A Memorial Mass will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, located at 15615 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on March 28, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. In celebration of Mary Gail's joyous life, the family invites all attendees to wear their brightest colors. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her friends of over 50 years, David and Nina Lutz, Patsy and Johnnie Dispenza, and AnnRose Guarino, for their unwavering love and companionship. They also extend special thanks to her longtime friends and neighbors of Chadsfordville: Audrey Anders, Cathy Campo, Jarja Carville, Rachel Cook, Janet Earlywine, and the late Sherri Thompson. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Catholic Charities or Meals on Wheels in Baton Rouge to honor her memory.
