Maria Alejandra Malpica Gonzalez
July 15, 1971 - March 1, 2025

Maria was born in Baton Rouge, LA July 15, 1971 to Anne and Nelson Malpica. She was a fighter through and through, and on March 1, 2025, Maria departed this life. Maria met and married the love of her life, Chanis Fernando Gonzalez, on June 28, 2002. Together, they created the most beautiful baby girl, Alexis Alejandra Gonzalez, and welcomed the best part of them into the family on May 13, 2003. Alexis became the center of their lives. They are both beyond proud of the young woman she is growing up to be. Their family of three became a family of four, with the addition of a small Doberman, Rover. Because of her infectious and fierce personality, Maria had hundreds of friends. Her close friends became her sisters, and together they guided each other through life's obstacles. Maria was passionate about her role as a teacher and a coach. She worked at St. Michael's the Archangel, Broadmoor High and Woodlawn High until she retired. Maria was an athlete of the truest form. She had the most competitive spirit, always pushing herself to be the best and help her teammates become better. That competitiveness transferred into her coaching. While at Broadmoor, Woodlawn and through the Capitol City Volleyball Club that she built, Maria changed the lives of so many young women. She was a giver in the truest form. She cared for all her athletes and fulfilled the coach role, the mother role, and the mentor role with a firm hand and a loving heart. Maria will always be remembered for her laughter, her love, and her storytelling. She will be missed every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her, worked with her, played with her, and sat with her.
Maria leaves behind her parents, Anne and Nelson Malpica; her husband, Chanis Gonzalez; daughter, Alexis Gonzalez; brothers Nelson Malpica and Mark Malpica; and many aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces and nephews here and in Venezuela.
Services will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Church on Friday, March 14th, 2025. Visitation will be 10am - 11am, Mass begins at 11am.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Tree Planting Timeline
