Plaquemine, LA - Leonard Gregory "Greg" Lyons, Sr., passed away at his home on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the age of 79. He was a lifelong resident of Plaquemine, La. Greg was a talented musician from an early age, learning to play nearly any instrument he picked up and had a beautiful singing voice. He was a graduate of Plaquemine High School where he was a star center on the football team and was named an All-American center. After graduating, he put his music on hold to serve in the U.S. Air Force at Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, Texas and received a Honorable Discharge in 1972. Following his service, he returned to his lifelong passion for music, eventually forming and playing in his own band. He never missed an opportunity to share a song. Greg is survived by his children, Richard "Ricky" Lyons (Rae), Tammy L. Rosso Granger Falcon (Gary), and Leonard "Lenny" Lyons (Stacey) whom he shared with his first wife, Wanda Fisher Lyons Gregoire; grandchildren, Matthew and Seth Rosso, Thomas Granger (Katelyn), Madalyn Brumley (Sage), Anthony and Kambri Lyons, Colton Lyons (Erica), and Bailey Lyons (Trey); great-grandchildren, Blaire Brumley, Reese and Summer Lyons, Tatum Harrington, Kaegan, Karson, Breelyn, and Bryson Granger; brother, Walter "Frankie" Lyons; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Charlie J. Lyons and Ethel Pendas Lyons Businelle; stepfather, John H. Businelle; siblings, Charles "Boogie" Lyons and Thomas Marvin Businelle; and sister-n-law, Artie Blanchard Lyons. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
