Baton Rouge, LA - Johnny Mars, Jr. departed his earthly life peacefully on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the age of 91 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana surrounded by his loving family.

Johnny was born May 3, 1935, in Woodville, Mississippi. He was the second child born to the late Johnny Mars, Sr. and Idella Myles Mars.

Johnny relocated his family to Baton Rouge, Louisiana and quickly began his work life at Louisiana Agriculture Supply. He later accepted a position as process operator with Exxon Resin USA.

He remained at Exxon for 27 years as a loyal, dedicated, and dependable employee until he took his well-deserved retirement. Johnny enjoyed music and especially gospel and blues when playing his guitar.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory, one devoted son, Thomas Royal Mars (Dell), Baton Rouge,LA , two loving daughters; Zan Mars Jones (Reginald) Mobile, AL, Deborah Higgins (Terrylon), Chicago, IL,six grandchildren; Thomas Royal Mars,II,U.S.Navy, Kaitlin Alexis Mars and Ashton Nicolle Jones Brumfield (Reginal), all of Baton Rouge, LA, Terrance Higgins (Dr. Traycee Allen) and Kia Higgins, Esq.,both of Chicago, IL, Stanesha Mars, New Orleans,LA,two great-grandchildren; Tre'Mont Higgins and Tahiru Mohammend, Chicago, IL., one sister, Mattie Mars Green (Louis),Gloster, MS,two brothers, Willie Earl Mars (Wanda), Houston,TX and Edward Mars, Oakland, CA,seven sisters-in-law, Marie Jackson Dillon, Joyce Jackson Washington, and Shirley Jacksonm all of Baton Rouge, LA, Ruth O'Neal Jackson Holmes, New Orleans, LA, Celia Jackson Suggs (Maurice), Richmond,VA, Dr. Brenda Jackson, Gloster,MS, and Willie Alma Royal Jackson, Centreville,MS, one brother-n-law; Nero Jackson (Lula), Ruleville, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
