John Howard Bellot Sr
Born in Youngsville, Louisiana in the mid 30's. Moved to Lafayette, in the late 40's after his father, Robert Francis Bellot Sr passed. Lived with his mother, Olive Mouton and siblings, Robert Francis, Jr and Mary Girlie Mabry. Was a player on the Lafayette Bayou Bengals baseball team, studied morse code, made neon signs and painted the first Evangeline Maid bread sign which still turns in Lafayatte. He applied for two positions out of high school in the early 50's and hired on as a professional truck driver for Ryder Truck Lines because Lafayette Police Department called second. Married his bride, Mary Jane Smith, July 3rd, 1954. Howard and Jean had seven chilren together from winter 1955 to spring 1970, Donna, John Jr, Bonny, Pamela, Vicky, Judy and Michael.
John, aka Gabby, Pepaw & Poppy moved thru the ranks of Ryder/PIE to terminal manager in Louisiana after several years and company transfers. Graduated Reserve Officer Training Corps for the Baton Rouge City Police Department in the mid 70's. In the early 80's he became an Independent transportation agent for Ranger/Landstar, special handling unit of RTL, specializing in Nationwide Truckload Service in the US, now known as Landstar. In the late 90's, on the recomendation of the safety man at Landstar, Cummins Engines contacted John to become one of only six drivers to introduce thier new Signature 600 Engine in the Run Hard, Dream Big tour across America and Canada, fully loaded. John was selected to pitch the sale of this engine to an assembly at Perdue University at the end of the tour. Became a restaurantuer after that. Stayed in transportation for 57 years. Worked with his wife and children throughout the duration of his careers. Finally retired in the late 2000's. John lost Mary in 2004, thier 50th wedding anniversary year, John passed 12 years and 2 months later. He was married 62 years to his bride Mary Jane. He leaves behind 7 children, 16 grandchildren and
30 great grandchildren. This is the only man we've ever known to accomplish everything he wanted to. He gives the glory to his bride.
