Baton Rouge, LA - Joann Cunningham, age 82, departed this life on Saturday, September 27, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Joann was born on January 15, 1943, in Ferriday, LA. Joann attended McCarty School. Joann was employed by Le Pavillon Hotel and several local daycares throughout her career. She was a devoted parishioner of St. David Catholic Church in the Lower Ninth Ward for many years until 2005, when she was displaced to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, following Hurricane Katrina. There, she was warmly welcomed by the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church family, where she continued to worship faithfully until her passing. She leaves to cherish her memory 4 children: James, Gerard, Dana and Danielle, 3 bonus daughters, Eloise, Mary Louise, and Wanda, over 20 grandchildren, over 20 great grandchildren and her 3 god children. She is preceded in death by her parents, Revester Melancon and Solomon McCoy, her love of over 20 years, Eddie Myers, her sister Donna Marie Rauls, her daughter "Hilda" Elaine Shorty, and her great grandson, Jhaylen Zaire Gibbs. Her grace, faith, and unwavering love for her family will remain cherished in the hearts of all who knew her. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1565 Curtis Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70807 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation is at 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., with holy rosary at 9:30.
