Jack Mathew Legleu Obituary

Jack Mathew Legleu was born December 29, 1939 to Clovis and Sophie Legleu in Baton Rouge, LA. He was the 8th child out of 9. He always would say he was a hellion as a kid and gave his parents a lot of trouble.

Jack joined the Army in 1958 to 1962 when he transitioned into the US Air Force and served for a total of 22 years. Jack had transferred into the Missle Department as an Instrumental Tech during the Cuban Missile Crisis while stationed at Dyes AFB in Abilene, TX. After about 3 years, Jack transferred back to the Avionic Communications-Navigation Department for the remainder of his Air Force career. During his service, Jack volunteered for two tours in Vietnam and was stationed both stateside and overseas training troops in the Avionic Communications-Navigation Systems. During his career he earned the Bronze Star Medal, AF Commendation Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Good Conduct Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal, AF Longevity Service Ribbon with Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Once Jack retired from the military, he went to work as an Instrumental Tech at Georgia Pacific and then Borden Chemical Plant. He worked about 20 years in the plants before retiring for the second time.

Jack was married to his wife, Linda Gale McDowell Legleu for 62 years. They raised four children together: Donna, Matthew (deceased), Michele, and Tye. Jack and Linda also raised a very special niece, Elizabeth (Lizzy) from the age of 12 after her dad (Linda's brother Johnny) passed away. Their children have blessed them with grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jack was the type of PawPaw that every child would dream about. He would take so much time and patience to ensure that each one of his grandchildren felt like they were so special that nothing or anyone else mattered, just that child he was spending time with.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Clovis and Sophie Legleu; wife, Linda Legleu; son, Mathew Clovis Legleu; siblings, Kenneth Legleu, Betty Legleu, Lois Sibley, Ruth Brogan Lambert, Ruby West, and Pete Legleu.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughters, Donna Driscoll (Jim), Michele Price (Barry); son, Tye Legleu (Tara); grandchildren, Kristy, Summer, James "Jimmy", Shelby, Jake, Alyssa, Devin, Mackenzie, and Olivia; great grandchildren, Rylie, Jackson, Mason, Nyalie, Raegan "Peanut", Nora, Oliver, and a number of nieces and nephews.
