Baton Rouge, Louisiana - Ethel Robson Taylor: A Life Well-Lived

Ethel Robson Taylor was a woman of remarkable stature and reputation. Her journey began when she was born in the family home outside Evergreen, LA, and continued throughout her working career and beyond. From her time as an operator for Bell Telephone, and throughout her life, she forged many meaningful connections. Those who knew her will remember her as someone who loved life, learning, her family, people, and especially children.

After graduating at the top of her high school class at Evergreen High School, Ethel worked diligently to put herself through college. She started at LSUA and continued to LSU, where she earned her Bachelor's, Master's, and 30+ hours beyond. Her teaching career spanned Avoyelles and Rapides parishes, and she spent nearly 40 years in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System. The community greatly benefited from her contributions to education, charity, and the enrichment of the lives of many children and adults.

Ethel's love for children was evident in her relationships with her son, William Walker, stepdaughter Carrie Ayers, and her grandchildren: Katherine and Sarah Walker, and Christopher Ayers. She enjoyed riding horses, RVing, traveling, reading, and pampering her pets, Angel and Abby. As a member of "The Rambling Readers," her activities were often noted in the Society Section of the newspaper. She was also an active member of Theta Sigma Phi, a Social Service Sorority, and served as the president of the State Guidance Counselors Association.

Even after retiring, Ethel continued to share her expertise in the educational field by evaluating teachers and principals for the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and the State of Louisiana. Her knowledge and engaging personality made her a sought-after tablemate at St. James Place, where she spent the last four years of her life.

Ethel was a devout Christian who found comfort and serenity in reading scriptures and devotionals, and listening to Gospel music. Despite no longer driving, she continued watching Joyce Mayer on television. Her devotion to the Lord shaped her into a person loved and respected by many.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Raymond Taylor, and her older brother Marvin "Tee" Robson. She is survived by her son, William Walker of Columbia, SC; stepdaughter Carrie Ayers of Baytown, TX; granddaughters Katherine (Ames, IA) and Sarah (Columbia, SC) Walker; grandson Christopher Ayers of Baytown, TX; and her younger sister Betty Daigrepont of Louisville, KY. Like her husband, Ray, Ethel donated her body to the LSU Medical School for research, continuing to help students even in her passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. James Place, 333 Lee Dr., Baton Rouge, LA, at 10am on Thursday, June 12th, 2025. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, Ethel requested that everyone spend time with loved ones and/or donate to a charitable cause close to their hearts. Please let us know what you chose to do by dropping a line to her son at 3606 Greenleaf Rd., Columbia, SC 29206.
