Emma Lee Pourciau Lefebvre Obituary
Port Allen, LA - Emma Lee Pourciau Lefebvre departed this earthly world to join her beloved family members in Heaven on April 1, 2026. Emma Lee was born in Blanks, LA on Sept. 2, 1935, the third child of Jules & Laura Hernandez Pourciau, from Chenal & Bayou Goula respectively. She grew up in Port Allen, LA where she met & eventually married George "Zip" Raymond Lefebvre, Jr. on June 18, 1955. They lived in Baton Rouge then moved to Lake Charles but returned to Port Allen in 1965. Soon thereafter they purchased a home in Port Allen where they would spend the remainder of their lives together. This house quickly became a home... filled with love & laughter. The front door was always open for friends & family to drop by for a visit, & there was usually a fresh pecan pie & coffee to share.
Their years of marriage were full of adventures & changes, as they learned to adapt to the changing world around them. They purchased & renovated a small camp on Grand Isle where they would take the family for vacation. To the kids this was vacation but to the family it was an opportunity to fish & shrimp thereby filling the freezer with food for the year. They planted & nurtured a pecan orchard with paper shell varieties which they eventually harvested & sold. Emma Lee & her sister-in-law Sherry opened Sherry Lee's Gift Shop in Port Allen, & at night Emma did the accounting for Bourg's Drug Store which was owned by her brother Lynn. Always seeking the best educational opportunities for their children, they enrolled them at Hardwick McMasters in Baton Rouge. To defray the cost of tuition Emma Lee got her CDL license & drove the school bus that carried kids from West Baton Rouge parish to Baton Rouge. After 1 year at Hardwick, they helped establish West Side Academy, a small private school in Lobdell where their children received an excellent education for 5 years.
In 1970, Emma's only sister Betty passed away suddenly. Despite her own grief she was able to provide love & guidance to Betty's 11 children. At this point she also accepted a full-time secretarial position at Baton Rouge Marine Contractors, filling the position which Betty previously had. She proudly worked for Baton Rouge Marine for 25 years as an Executive Secretary & Human Resources person. She occasionally catered gatherings on the ships thereby meeting a wide variety of people & sharing her delicious food with them. She & Zip occasionally catered family events. Whereas he was known for making jambalaya or redfish supreme, Emma was known for casseroles & desserts. She was known to bake 14 full-size pecan pies in a single day. She was an excellent cook, & she even made a personal cookbook with some of her favorite recipes. Many family & friends have been gifted a cookbook, thus these precious recipes live on. Never shying away from a challenge, Emma even catered her granddaughter Jessica's wedding which was no small fete given that the wedding was held in Mississippi. With the help of many family members, this event was a smashing success.
Emma Lee was active in community events. She served as a Board Member for the Capital Area Human Services & was a member of both the West Side Women's Club and the West Baton Rouge Historical Association. She was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church & proudly served on the Bereavement Committee, offering solace to the grieving in her community. If you were fortunate enough to have known Emma Lee, you know that she was a true lady. She had a refined beauty such that she always looked lovely, yet she would roll up her sleeves & paint the house if needed. She was always kind & compassionate, even bottle feeding kittens when necessary despite not being a cat-lover. Emma was a genuine friend who seemed ageless, with her friends ranging in age from their 20's to their 90's. Living in Port Allen gave her the opportunity to truly have life-long friends, many with whom she & Zip traveled the world via multiple cruises. She was also blessed to live in such a small town where friends & neighbors were actually counted as family. Although we never asked, it is safe to assume that Emma's greatest accomplishment in life was her family. She had four children, 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 22 nieces & nephews. She was proud of every one of them, so if you knew her, you knew them! She reveled in the joy of spending time with them, often celebrating holidays, birthdays, & special occasions such as graduations. She also made a celebration out of daily activities such as shopping, going out to eat, & getting a Chantilly snowball from Snowballs Plus. Her greatest joy was simply being with those that she loved! Emma Lee is survived by her daughters Gisele Allement, Gigi Lefebvre (Cindy Culler), & Germaine Wall (Kurt Wall). Also survived by her grandchildren Miranda Gros, Lara Bynum (Russell), Elissa Logsdon (Doug), Jared Allement (Emilee), Jessica Allement O'Neal (Tyler), Whitney Rusha (Patrick), Kate Bassett (Chris), Erica Fertitta (Cameron Townsend), & Anna Wall. Surviving great grandchildren include Kannon Bynum, Davis Logsdon, Madeline Allement, Eleanor Logsdon, Jude Bassett, Stephen Allement, Beau Bassett, & Jayden Rusha. Numerous relatives from the Lefebvre, Pourciau, Altazan, & Bergeron families also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband George Raymond Lefebvre, Jr., her son Gordon Jules Lefebvre, her son-in-law Stephen Allement, & her great grandson Baden Timothy Bynum, her parents Jules Pourciau & Laura Pourciau O'Neal, her sister Betty Pourciau Altazan, her brother-in-law Doyle "Dutch" Altazan, her brother Lynn Jules Pourciau, & her sister-in-law Sherry Lopez Pourciau. In short, she was the remaining matriarch of the Lefebvre, Pourciau, Altazan, & Bergeron families... the last of her great generation. Visitation will be at Wilbert Funeral Home in Port Allen on Friday, April 3rd, from 5 to 8 p.m., and again on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A Scripture Service will be at Holy Family Catholic Church in Port Allen at 1 p.m., conducted by Rev. Jerry Martin. Burial will be private in Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge at a later date. Pallbearers will be Jared Allement, Kurt Wall, Tyler O'Neal, Russell Bynum, Doug Logsdon, & Cameron Townsend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Holy Family Catholic Church.
