Zachary, LA - Dorothy Mae Lawrence Milam, age 94, of Zachary, Louisiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, June 6, 2025. Born on January 31, 1931, in Shaw, Mississippi, she spent her early years in the Greenville community, where she was surrounded by family and friends. It was there, in Greenville, that she met the love of her life, John Vernon Milam, Sr., and together they began a beautiful journey of faith, love, and family. Due to John's work in road construction, they lived and raised their family in various places across South Louisiana. Eventually, they put down roots in Zachary, where they spent the rest of their lives together in the home where Dorothy remained until her passing. A woman of deep and abiding faith, Dorothy was a devoted member of Galilee Baptist Church in Zachary. Her kind spirit, steady devotion, and love for the Lord were evident in all she did. She enjoyed reading her Bible, sewing, crocheting, watching Hallmark movies and game shows, and cooking—especially cornbread and turnip greens. She was the loving wife of the late John Vernon Milam, Sr., with whom she shared 67 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a strong, faith-centered family. Dorothy is survived by her four children: Shirley Milam Snodgrass, Carolyn Milam Warren and husband Tommy, Sandra Milam Howard and husband Dennis, and John V. Milam, Jr. and wife Melanie. She was the cherished grandmother of 17 grandchildren, including Eric David Warren and Lauren Brooke Milam who preceded her in death, and great-grandmother of 22 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She is also preceded in death by her son-in-laws, Joseph R. Snodgrass and Steven R. Geiger, as well as her siblings Laverne, Jenny, James, and David. Dorothy will be remembered most for her unwavering love for her family, her gracious and gentle nature, and her dedication as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy of faith and love continues in each of them. Visitation will be held at Charlet Funeral Home in Zachary on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and again on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM, conducted by Dr. Eddie Davis. Burial will follow at Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
