Mrs. Dorothy 'Dot' Durrett McConnell Obituary
Baton Rouge, LA - Dorothy "Dot" Durrett McConnell, born October 13, 1946, in Winnfield, Louisiana, passed away on June 29, 2025, in Baton Rouge.
Dot was a proud graduate of Louisiana State University, where she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She earned a degree in French and later a Master's in Library Science. She dedicated 30 years of service to the Department of Transportation and Development in Statewide Flood Control as well as the Port Construction and Development Priority Program. After her retirement, she continued contributing her expertise as the manager of the Ports Association of Louisiana.
A devoted LSU fan, Dot found joy in photographing wildlife, especially the birds and foxes around the LSU lakes. She also cherished trips to the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, where she continued her passion for photography, always in pursuit of the perfect picture of a black bear.
Dot was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, living in the same home for over 50 years. She was dearly loved by her family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues for her wit, intelligence, and candor.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John McConnell, of Baton Rouge; her son, Dr. Douglas McConnell (Laura) of Columbia, SC; and her grandsons, James McConnell and John McConnell.
Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Melva Durrett.
A graveside ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on July 11 at the Masonic Cemetery in Clinton, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Friends of the Smokies (www.friendsofthesmokies.org).
