First Sergeant (Retired) Donald Lee Johnson, Sr. was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He proudly served in the United States Army for 35 years, retiring as a First Sergeant and earning the Legion of Merit. A proud graduate of Scotland ville Sr. High class of 1970 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A faithful member of Greenview First Baptist Church, he shared his love of music and joy with everyone around him.

Donald married Carrie Johnson in 2005, and they shared 23 years of love and devotion. He is survived by his wife; children Donald "Tiger" (Navonne) Johnson, Jr., D'Arryl (Wendy) Sumter, Darond (Tyreea) Sumter, Dwayne (Tnelda) Sumter, Donna (Desarae) Henderson, D'Netra Sumter, Donovan (Megan) Johnson, Misti Champion, Dontae Johnson, Michael Johnson, and Matthew Johnson, and a bonus son, Wayne (Lisa) Glass; twenty-four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers, Roderick (DeLisa) Kenney and Anthony (Joyce) Kenney; one sister, Angella (Shedrick) Wynn; two sisters-in-love, Eddie M. Adams and Debra (Nathaniel "Nate") Tucker; two aunts, Armedia Reese-White and Gloria Hayes; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and caring friends. He is preceded in death by his mother Bernice Johnson Kenney and nephew Stephen Anthony Kenney.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenview First Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, followed by interment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m.
