Daniel Thomas Manget III (Dan) Obituary

Pace, Florida - Daniel Thomas Manget III

July 13, 1935 - October 6, 2025

Daniel Thomas Manget III was born on July 13, 1935 and passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025 at his home in Pace, Florida with his long-time partner, Carol Moses, at his side. He was 90 years old and had battled complications from diabetes for many years.

In addition to his beloved partner of 25 years Carol, Dan is also survived by his former wife, Maureen Donnaud Manget, his daughters: Lisa Manget Buchanan (Jim), of Harwich Port, Massachusetts, and Jennifer Manget Gaskin (Spencer), and his three grandchildren: Spencer, Jr, Charlie and Katherine Gaskin, all of Birmingham, Alabama. He is also survived by his five nieces and nephews: Eugenie Manget Lyman, Guy C. Lyman III, Kimberly Lyman, Christopher Lyman and Kevin Lyman.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Thomas Manget, Jr. and Marjory Rees Manget, and his three sisters: Marjory Manget Lyman, Stephanie Dent Manget and Diane dePass Manget.

Dan was born in Newnan, Georgia, and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended The Isidore Newman School and St Martin's Episcopal School, in New Orleans, before graduating from The McCallie school in Chattanooga, TN. He attended the University of Texas, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and studied Petroleum Engineering, before graduating from Tulane University with a degree in Business Administration.

After college, Dan began his career working for Humble Oil (now ExxonMobil) utilizing his engineering and business background. He then spent ten years working in institutional investment sales and research management for several Wall Street firms in New York City. Upon returning to New Orleans, he joined Stewart Enterprises as a Senior Vice President, and ultimately retired from Boeing Corporation as a senior planning officer. During these years, Dan was active in the Republican Party of Louisiana, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and The Boston Club.

Throughout his life prior to his illness, Dan was very active, enjoying basketball, tennis and squash. He particularly loved all water sports, including swimming, scuba diving, sailing and water skiing, and later as an adult, took up snow skiing. He loved the outdoors, enjoying annual camping trips in upstate New York, hiking in the Adirondacks, including annual hikes up Mount Washington in New Hampshire to ski Tuckerman's Ravine, and week-long river raft trips in Colorado.

Among his many interests and talents, Dan loved working with his hands, from wood working and carpentry, building bookshelves and cabinets, putting up sheetrock, painting and wallpapering, to landscaping and gardening, to plumbing and electrical repairs, there was little that Dan could not teach himself to do. His love for nature and the outdoors led him to purchase and finish construction on a ski house in upstate New York, where he spent many happy hours working on completing the house which family and friends enjoyed in all seasons as a respite from the bustle of life in New York City. He continued this love of working with his hands throughout his life, even after being confined to a wheelchair from his illness, as he completed a full renovation of two beachfront condominiums in Pensacola, Florida, doing much of the design work, and directing others to complete the work he could not do himself.

Dan is remembered by friends and family as a larger-than-life personality, with strong views and opinions, though always with a ready smile, a twinkle in his eye and a good-natured playfulness. Even after his illness confined him to a wheelchair, Dan did his best to not let that hold him back, whether from working on projects around the house and yard or traveling to see family and friends, and he never let his disability dim his natural optimism and gregarious nature.

Dan will be buried in the Manget family plot in Oakhill Cemetery in Newnan, Georgia with a graveside service on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
