Plaquemine, LA - Charles E. Medlen, known as "Bill" or "Soupbone" to many, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at West Towne Assisted Living Facility in Port Allen at age 87. He was a native and lifelong resident of Plaquemine. Bill was an Army veteran and a retired plant operator. At his request, he was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 8, at Bayou Plaquemine Baptist Church, 29215 Highway 75, Plaquemine, Louisiana. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. The service, conducted by Pastor Wallace Kraemer, will begin at 11 a.m. Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Judy Broussard Medlen; their two children, Brandi Medlen Carroll and Hunter Charles Medlen; one precious grandchild, Olivia C. Hanes and husband Graham; two siblings, James "Pot" Medlen and wife Farrell, and Melba "Sweet" Diamond and husband Henry; and a very devoted friend, George "Boy" Ramirez. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James "Henry" and Esther "Dootsie" Landry Medlen; siblings, Earl "Hosey" Medlen and Joyce Medlen. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman, and he was a member of Bull Tail and Ten Shot hunting clubs. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the staffs at West Towne Assisted Living and Comfort Care Hospice for the care that he was given by both.
