Catherine T. Spurling (Topsy) Obituary
Baton Rouge, Louisiana - 2Timothy 4:6-8. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness. Catherine T. Spurling was born on December 5, 1956, to the late Henrietta Thompson and Isaac Boise Watson, Sr. She accepted Christ at an early age and was Baptized in her earlier 20's by the late Reverend William Pitcher, Sr., at Mount Gideon Baptist Church. She attended TA Levy then transferred to Dequincy High School. She completed her education at Job Core in Kentucky. Catherine married Bernard A. Spurling in 1981 and started a family, sharing 45 plus years together until her departure on Tuesday, June 10th. She worked and retired from the Department of Social Services as a Production Control Analyst with 30 years of Service. Catherine was a wonderful person with a feisty attitude; she showed tough love to everyone and gave to anyone that needed or asked. Her love shined through, asking about everybody. Even through her toughest trials, she cared for her loved ones. She was giving and generous. She loved to shop and was very fashionable. Topsy was never going to wear an outfit twice. She loved talking on the phone and gave good advice. Even though she was visually impaired, she loved her TV shows, Family Feud and Law and Order. She fought a good battle with various health issues: Blindness, colon cancer, and a stroke. Throughout her trials, she remained steadfast & humble and always kept a smile on her face.
