Bettye Louise Morgan Martin passed away suddenly and tragically on July 31, 2025, in Longboat Key, Florida, as the result of a swimming accident. She was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on December 16, 1948, to Virginia Strader Morgan and Woodrow Richard Morgan. Bettye was a social studies teacher for many years in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, first at Scotlandville High School and later at Belaire High School. After retirement from teaching, she moved with her husband, Andrew, to West Feliciana Parish where she immediately involved herself with the West Feliciana Food Pantry, of which she soon became the director. Bettye was devoted to her clients and fellow volunteers at the pantry, working tirelessly day and night to serve the more than 350 families who depended on the food and other necessities that the pantry provided. She was also an enthusiastic world traveler, and along with Andrew visited China, New Zealand, Hawaii, Europe, Egypt and the Middle East, as well as Mexico, Cuba, the Caribbean, and many states in the U.S, many of which were on the back of their BMW motorcycle. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Virginia and W. Richard Morgan. She is survived by Andrew Charles Martin, her husband of 53 years, one son, Dr. Seth Alexander Martin (Milena), and two granddaughters, Lauren and Lily Martin. Also, a brother, W. Richard Morgan (Barita). She is also survived by a nephew, Adam Morgan (Kelli, and their two sons Kael and Luka; a niece, Anne Morgan (Ryan) and their three sons, Gavin Ayo, Johnny and Ruckus Schaubert. A memorial service for Bettye will be held on Tuesday, August 26, at Charlet Funeral Home, 4230 High Street, Zachary, Louisiana, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Reverend Jerry Martin. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory will be gratefully accepted at the West Feliciana Food Pantry, P.O. Box 1357, St. Francisville, LA 70775.
