Baton Rouge, LA - Barbara Cheek,a beloved wife,mother,grandmother, great-grandmother,and friend,passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the age of 89.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Barbara lived a life defined by compassion and generosity. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School and Louisiana State University. She was known by all who met her for her warm spirit, thoughtful words, and genuine care for others. Her ability to make people feel valued was one of her greatest gifts.

Above all, Barbara treasured her family. She was a devoted wife and wonderful mother whose love and guidance created a legacy. Her gentle nature and steadfast support touched the lives of those around her and will continue to be remembered by everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Barbara had a strong faith and was active in Campus Bible Class, taught by Nick Kalivoda, where she enjoyed studying God's word and sharing fellowship with others. She was also an avid gardener who found great joy in nurturing and creating beauty through her love of plants and flowers.

Throughout her life, Barbara generously gave her time and talents to the organizations she loved. She served as president of the Lanier Elementary PTA (lifetime honorary member of the Louisiana PTA and National Congress of PTA), Sherwood Forest Garden Club, and Serendipity social group. Whatever club or organization Barbara participated in, she took an active role and contributed with dedication and a servant's heart.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved son, Johnnie Gerald Cheek; her husband, Edward Cheek; her parents, Johnnie James and Annie Laura Denham; her stepfather, Raymond Thomas; her brother, Johnnie James Jr. (Jane); and her sisters, Yvonne McRight (Buddy) and Gloria Warren (Albert).

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Cheek Pickren (Gregory Pickren) and Laura Cheek Aguilar (Richard Aguilar); her grandchildren, Sage Pickren (Eric Dunheimer), Ryan Pickren (Rachel Pickren), John Aguilar (Hayes Aguilar), and Alexander Aguilar (fiancée, Tori Nunnally); and her great-grandchildren, Elise Dunheimer, Wesley Pickren, Enzo Aguilar, and Lochlan Aguilar.

Barbara's legacy of faith, devotion to family, and compassion will continue through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.

A memorial service honoring Barbara's life will be held on Saturday, September 5, at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., with the memorial service following at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Radio Bible Courses, PO Box 14916, Baton Rouge, LA 70898.
