First Lady Alice C. Foster
November 6, 1940 - March 6, 2025
First Lady Alice C. Foster, a 48 year resident of St. Mary Parish and native of Portsmouth, Virginia, left this earth on Thursday, March 6, 2025 surrounded in love by family.
In her role as First Lady, Alice supported many causes such as Project Clean-Up (The Governor's state-wide Litter Eradication Program, many Breast Cancer Awareness Programs, the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, of which she served as the 1996, 1997, and 1998 Campaign Spokesperson, the promotion of an educational children's book, You Are Sunshine, as well as countless other programs and projects throughout her very active eight years serving the great state of Louisiana as First Lady.
Though she took immense pride in her service alongside her husband, Alice's life was certainly not summed up by those eight years. The quote "Behind every great man is a great woman," most certainly rings true when thinking of Alice. She was a woman of strong values, loyalty, and charisma, all traits deeply rooted in her simplistic nature and most importantly her love of her family and friends.
Above all Alice cherished her calling in life as a loving wife to her late husband of 40 years, Governor Murphy J. "Mike" Foster, Jr.; and mother to her sons, Paul West and his wife Lisette and Troy West and his wife Sandra. She is also survived by her step-son, Murphy J. Foster, III and his wife Diane; and her step-daughter, Ramelle Foster. Alice's legacy includes nine grandchildren, John West, Jennifer Harding, Michelle Eunice, Christopher West, Zachary West, Spencer West, David West, Murphy J. Foster, IV, and Clark Foster; 14 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Fred Cosner and his wife Darlene.
She also leaves behind her loving employees who were like family, Ann Cortez and Leslie Braud; and her devoted caregivers, "the A-Team", Sherry Carter, Coratio Yelling, Cassie Murdock, Debra Declouet, Patrice Charles, and Pauline Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Cosner and Vira Surles Cosner.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 805 First Street, Franklin, LA 70538, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Stephen Crawford. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 10:00 AM. Following the services interment will be held in the Franklin Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Pallbearers will be John West, Christopher West, Zachary West, Spencer West, David West, Murphy J. Foster IV, Clark Foster, Drew Harding, and Will Eunice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Franklin or to the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Foundation are appreciated.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories and condolences with the family by visiting his memorial page at www.iberts.com.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. 1007 Main Street, Franklin, LA 70538, (337) 828-5426.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
