Albert Millet Ory Obituary

Jackson, LA - Albert M. "Doc" Ory, slipped away easily from this life into the next on March 26, 2026 at LA War Veterans' Home in Jackson. He was born November 4, 1927 in Baker, LA, the eighth of nine children, to George E'mile and Bertha Millet Ory. As is often the case in large

families, the younger ones get lost in the crowd, and young Albert was left to run unchecked in the village of Baker where he attached himself to Dr. Emerson Singletary. It was said that where Dr Singletary 's car was parked that's where you could find Albert, and he soon became known as "Little Doc." Doc Ory enlisted in the US Army and served in the last days of WWII stationed in Greenland; he was called up again during the Korean Conflict and was stationed stateside. He married Patty Jean Higginbotham in 1950; they celebrated 65 years of marriage before she passed away in 2015. Doc was a self-employed carpenter and contractor; he retired from EBRP School System as a maintenance and construction supervisor. He was a natural hunter and fisherman and knew all the best hunting and fishing places from Baker to Zachary to Tunica eventually buying a hunting camp near Weyanoke in the Tunica Hills. Doc could build anything and was the first one called when friends or family wanted to build a home. His math skills were phenomenal; he could look at a house plan and tell you to the penny how many squares of roofing, how many feet of lumber and how many cases of beer were needed for the job. He appreciated fine furniture, exploring old homes and buildings, and loved Antiques Roadshow. He always made a garden, summer and winter, and he could cook anything he hunted, fished, or grew in his garden. He was a teller of tales both honest-to-god true and greatly exaggerated; he was at turns soft- hearted and mule-headed, a charmer and an aggravation. Doc is predeceased by his eight brothers and sisters, Norman "Beau" (Myrtis), Marjorie "Sis" Roop (Ray Roop), Reginald "Scrap" (Tena), Gloria "Chutty" Cameron (Henry Cameron), George E. "Shorty" (Dorothy), Carol "Tookie" Wysor (George Wysor), Virgil "Baby" (Mary), and Kathleen "Suzie" Butler. He is survived by his brother-in-law, John D. Butler. He is also survived by his four children, George R. Ory (Lucy), Albert V. Ory (Michelle), Norman J. Ory and Patricia Ory Fanguy (Ed Fanguy, Jr.) He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Shannon Ory Smith (Jake), George J. "Joey" Ory, Daniel M. Ory, Brigett Ory Adcock (Eric), Jessica Reddell (Dave Popovich), Camille Fanguy (Jason Dormady), and Edison Fanguy, III; and by 3 great grandchildren and 25 nieces and nephews. Doc also leaves behind a special group of comrades-in-arms at LA War Veterans' Home. Services for Doc Ory will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4826 Main St, Zachary, LA, on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 with visitation in the church from 9:00-10:45, Mass at 11:00.
